THE LUSATIAN GRASS
The two core band-members: Karolina Stránská (songwriting, vocals, mandolin, guitar) and Tomáš Kejklíček (songwriting, vocals, guitar, claw-hammer and 3-finger style banjo, upright bass, piano) met in 1996 and since that time they have been closely cooperating and working together on providing listeners their distinctive way of playing and singing bluegrass, gospel, old-time and country music.
Most of the effort is focused on writing, producing and performing band’s own original and authentic stuff in bluegrass, gospel, old-time and country styles; both Tom and Karolina write, sing, play and present their own songs and instrumentals. The essential attention is paid to and put on harmony singing and personal emotional authenticity while performing, in English only. The two other band members enrich the band´s sound significantly, Miloš Macháček, joining in 2009, is an excellent upright bass player and Miroslav Pozník, a guitarist, joining in 2010, contributes with his great bass vocal harmony singing.
During its history the band has recorded and released 9 CDs including almost totally original material of nearly 100 own songs and tunes. It has performed and presented its music in some European countries (Germany, Holland, Norway, Hungary, Slovakia, France). The group is named after the Lusatian Mountains (Lužické hory) on the Bohemia-Germany-Poland border, which is the homeland of the band.
The inspirational sources include Bill Monroe, Johny Cash, Carter Stanley, A.P.Carter, Hazel Dickens, Blue Grass Boys, Stanley Brothers, Lilly Brothers, Carter Family, Chuck Wagon´s Gang, Del McCoury Band, Johnson Mountain Boys, etc.
